Introduction

Education is a point of light that points humanity in the correct direction. The goal of education is to provide students with reasonable thinking, knowledge, and self-sufficiency in addition to literacy.

Nursing is a vocation that requires clinical knowledge and skills to care for patients and their families as we deal with real-life problems.

Nursing graduates must be trained to practise as competent healthcare professionals in a highly complex, diverse, and ever-changing setting.

Nursing students must be able to conduct the actions of the profession in real-life scenarios, which makes the learning experience that much more unique. Critical thinking is essential for safe, competent, and skilled nursing practice.

Clinical experience is regarded as a vital component of nursing education throughout all nursing programmes. Nurse educators and faculty are responsible for providing the most efficient clinical training to nursing students during their course.

Nurse educators are responsible for creating learning environments that promote critical thinking. It is important that students learn not just what they learn, but also how they learn.

Traditional teaching methods should be updated in order to enhance learning experiences and promote lifelong learning. Teaching methods that include “doing” and discussion with “others” will encourage deeper learning. Creativity may be nurtured, and both students and teachers enjoy the benefits of innovation.

A teacher does his or her best to communicate knowledge in the manner in which he or she has learned it. As a result, any communication strategies that suit this function without compromising the goal could be considered creative teaching approaches.

The employment of innovative approaches in health care institutions has the potential to not only improve education, but also to empower people, strengthen governance, and galvanise efforts to attain the country’s human development goal.

The act of constructive thinking, organizing information, abilities, and attitude into fresh, creative, and rational ideas, is known as innovation.

Emerging Trends in Teaching Methodology:

There are numerous classroom and clinical instruction strategies. Blackboard learning (Web-based learning), lecture, discussion, demonstration, simulation, laboratory, seminar, panel, symposium, workshop, project, role-play (socio drama), clinical teaching methods, case-based learning, clinical simulation, programmed instruction, self-directed learning (SDL), micro teaching, computer assisted instruction (CAI), computer assisted learning (CAL), mind mapping/concept mapping, storytelling, Field trips, Games, Use of good Sense of humour etc.

But not all approaches are innovative or new approaches to teaching. The use of teaching methods when giving lectures or instructing in a clinical setting depends on the teacher. Applications that are innovative should be supported with data.

A teacher must see before class that-

  1. Relevancy of selection of new approaches for using technology as a teaching tool
  2. New insights for using positive behaviour supports
  3. Strategies for reaching students who are negative toward college
  4. Techniques for teaching unmotivated learners
  5. Special considerations for reaching economically disadvantaged students
  6. Project-Based Learning Strategies
  7. Working with students in inclusive settings like lab, wards, community area etc.
  8. Instructional techniques for gifted learners
  9. Classroom management techniques the increase instruction time
  10. Strategies that work in a common core
  11. How to empower students to think critically and be creative
  12. Creative, fresh, ready-to-use activities and techniques for teacher

For the profession of nursing, theoretical and practical training must be combined. The following are some educational techniques that have been employed to help learners with their communication and motor skills: 

Simulation:  In order to duplicate, foresee, or enhance real-world occurrences with guided experiences in a fully interactive style, simulation is regarded as a method rather than a technology. A simulation is, in broad, simple terms, a person, thing, or situation that makes an effort to portray and address issues in an authentic manner. Role play, skits, standard patients, models, three-dimensional simulations using manikins, virtual reality simulations, computer simulations, video interactions, and other techniques can be utilised in clinical simulation. Nursing students are given an extremely engaging presentation of theory and practice using simulators.

Case Based Learning: The investigative case-based learning approach is a teaching and learning strategy that allows students to take control of their education as they investigate the science that supports complicated, realistic situations.

Problem Based Learning: For nursing students, Problem Based Learning (PBL) is a teaching strategy that encourages active learning in order to help them comprehend concepts, develop critical thinking, and solve problems.

PBL is a teaching method that helps students gain the critical thinking skills needed to apply their growing body of knowledge to real-world clinical issues. This approach boosts self-directed, lifelong learning, clinical reasoning, and learning motivation.

Video conferencing and web-based conferencing: Through this technique and technology, educators and students can connect, clear their quarries, and conduct live demonstrations from a distance. Additionally, it aids in bridging the widely separated student groups.

E-learning Methods: This strategy assists students in adjusting to various distant learning tools for self-directed, active learning, and refocusing from the educator to the subject via the internet.

Tele Teaching: An online educational model in which the learner interacts directly with the tutor. This is learner-centred learning that encourages discovery learning at their workplace or at home.

Multimedia Technology in the Classroom: Using multimedia technology as an innovative teaching and learning method in a problem-based learning environment by assigning students a multimedia project to develop them in this skill set.

Classroom Active Learning: Active Learning Classrooms are meant to incorporate the concept of “active learning” into any size in-person classroom environment, for nearly any sort of course. Active learning entails students and instructors participating in the learning process through collaborative classroom activities and reflection.

Blackboard learn or web-based learning: Blackboard learning, often known as web-based learning, it is a Web-based learning management system (LMS) that is meant to enable fully online courses as well as give a space for face-to-face course supplements. Blackboard offers a wide range of tools and features to enhance the learning experience. Learning solutions are educational delivery systems that provide people with the knowledge and skills they need to improve their performance and achieve organisational objectives.

Conclusion: A mix of technologies and social media play an important part in this by increasing technology integration, humanization of virtual interactions, and personalization of learning. New technologies continue to develop, promising to change and revitalise today’s higher education system. Globally, there has been a push for a paradigm shift in nursing.

After discussing these innovative and emerging technologies, very few are supported by research that shows the effectiveness of several of these technologies in improving student learning and achievement (e.g., Active Learning Classrooms, Simulation Technology), and the majority of them have not been fully evaluated and will most likely need to be refined iteratively as weaknesses are identified and new challenges emerge.

Furthermore, instructors must be thoroughly trained and rewarded for adopting new technologies. Nonetheless, these and/or other technologies that have not yet been conceptualised will undoubtedly be included into health care education as it evolves to address the various problems of 21st-century learning.
